Katie Bigelow Mettle Ops

Katie Bigelow

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Katie Bigelow, founder and CEO of Mettle Ops, brings a vision of "Warfighters Serving Warfighters" to the defense contracting world. Launched in 2013, Mettle Ops excels in program management, engineering, and business development, securing over $200 million in government contracts focused on soldier survivability. Katie’s unique leadership and commitment to US-sourced materials have transformed Mettle Ops into an agile, innovative leader in UAV and defense technologies.


A decorated Army Aviator, Katie served over a decade in the military, piloting critical medical evacuation missions in Korea, Iraq, and the US. This firsthand experience with the demands of combat and soldier safety drives her dedication to developing life-saving solutions for the military.


Balancing her professional achievements with personal passions, Katie and her husband Mark raise their eight children in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She values her faith in Christ, family, quilting, and adventure, maintaining a harmonious life where work and personal pursuits coexist. Mettle Ops’ culture of integrity, innovation, and support for veterans reflects Katie’s commitment to making a difference for warfighters and their families.

Mark Bigelow Mettle Ops

Mark Bigelow

Chief Strategy Officer

As a strong leader, mentor, manager, and business developer, Mark Bigelow manages programs and develops Mettle Ops to cultivate company growth. He’s a visionary who specializes in building strong relationships, strategic thinking, and creative solutions. Mark brings dynamic project management skills and leadership experience while serving as the Vice President of Operations at Mettle Ops. As the Chief Strategy Officer, Mark has brought over $200 million of work to Mettle Ops, each contract working to support the warfighter as they serve the country.

Mark served his country as a US Army Artillery officer and Acquisition Corps officer and bravely led 100 soldiers and 27 combat vehicles in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has retired after more than 23 years of active duty and will always be a leader of soldiers at heart.

Kurt Ansorge Mettle Ops

Kurt H. Ansorge

Chief Engineer

Kurt is the engineering leader and technical project manager for Mettle Ops. He has over 25 years of experience as an engineer serving the defense industry. He is a goal-oriented leader with extensive experience in engineering, research, and project management. Kurt has worked on numerous programs including robotics, hybrid vehicles, armor, mobility, and automotive systems. He has managed both automotive and military projects from planning through execution and delivery. He is well versed in testing and test support for Government programs including on-site support.

Stephanie Schmidt Mettle Ops

Stephanie Schmidt

Chief Financial Officer

Stephanie has been with Mettle Ops since 2018. She started in Accounting and is now the Chief Financial Officer. With a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Michigan State University and considerable experience in the automotive industry, Stephanie leverages her technical background and financial expertise to excel in financial planning, risk management, and operational efficiency. Her strategic insights and leadership have driven significant improvements in cost optimization and financial performance. Known for her analytical prowess and collaborative approach, Stephanie consistently delivers innovative solutions that contribute to the company's growth and success.

Danielle Birchard Mettle Ops

Danielle Birchard

Chief of Staff

Danielle joined Mettle Ops in 2016. Initially taking on responsibilities in Human Resources and Security, she now leads these departments alongside several others, demonstrating a versatile skill set and deep understanding of the company’s operations. As Chief of Staff, she coordinates cross-departmental initiatives, enhances operational efficiency, and supports executive leadership. Her role encompasses the oversight of a broad range of functions including employee relations, security, information technology, customer support, marketing, and general administration. Danielle holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Operations Management and Human Resources Management from Oakland University.
