Garbage in, Garbage Out (GIGO)

“Garbage in, garbage out, or GIGO, refers to the idea that in any system, the quality of output is determined by the quality of the input.” I have known this idea for many years, and it applies to many facets of life, both professional and personal. In this BLOG, I will focus on the personal aspect.

How do I effect change in my life for the better? We all endeavor to change, but by which standard? The world’s standards? … ones based on people’s experiences, opinions, and thoughts or by biblical standards.

According to God’s Word,

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”.

I believe lasting change is accomplished when God works in a believer’s heart. In other words, God works to bring about change as I read the Bible and submit to His will. Does it come easy for me– NO! I too often want MY WAY in MY TIMING!  I don’t want to rely on God or anyone else to help me. I am learning that my pride is an inhibitor of change since it indicates that I know best how to handle my life. But if it were left solely to me, I would make a mess of things. I have proven this again and again.

Returning to my original thought of “Garbage in, Garbage out” to tie this together. If I try to handle life independently, apart from God, there will be no lasting change. I cannot do this on my own. I do not have the strength or the wisdom to make the right choices. Temporary change is achievable most of the time, but no permanent change. If I submit to God’s will in the Bible, He will do the work I cannot do. He will bring about the needed change and cause me to grow.
