R is for Resilience.
Mettle Ops states that resilience is “Embodying the strength and endurance necessary to support our warfighters.”
Mettle Ops is a relatively small company in regard to other defense contractors. While this can be an advantage in some respects, it is not in others. A smaller company means less bodies to take on more work. Mettle Ops doesn’t see this as an issue, however. Every team member is resilient no matter what kind of work needs to get done on any given project.
Deadlines are very real regarding defense contracts. Sometimes a forty-hour work week doesn’t necessarily fit inside that window of work. Mettle Ops employees must show the endurance to finish the job. Team members have told me they wouldn’t be in the position they are in now if they only did the minimum of what was asked.
Different team members are learning new things all the time. For example, understanding engineering drawings isn’t necessarily in a Project Managers job description. Occasionally, however, for them to do their job completely, they need to understand the nuances of the drawing better. When they are looking for the necessary knowledge, an engineer can work with them and help them figure out the drawing more skillfully. The PM in this situation is showing resilience. They are doing whatever it is they need, to do their job to the best of their ability. This also shows the camaraderie of Mettle Ops, team members always willing to help each other out.
