When you think of the word “resilient”, what do you think of? Things that come to mind are strength/toughness, ability to withstand difficulties, ability to overcome adversities, and so on. This is a fantastic trait to have as a person, not just in daily life but especially in the workplace. In fact, I’ve covered leadership in some of my past blogs and I’ve found that resilience is a very important trait to have as a leader. This is because it is very easy to come across difficulties and failure in the workplace and you need to learn how to embrace and adapt to them. Therefore, if success is what you’re looking for then resilience is one surefire way of getting there.
Resilience isn’t only about withstanding obstacles but can also be about adapting easily, adjusting strategies, thriving under constructive feedback, looking for opportunities for personal development, balancing a full bandwidth, the list goes on! Always look for ways to improve your resilience in the workforce by doing things like embracing challenges and using obstacles as learning opportunities, learn to work with others as a team by building good relationships with colleagues, learn from others as well as your own experiences, learn how to problem solve, etc. There are also some surprising ways to improve resiliency such as simply taking care of yourself and your body through good habits and simply just having hope and patience.
All in all, no one is immune to challenges or adversities in the workforce and having resiliency won’t make them go away either, but it will certainly help you navigate them proactively. This will lead to a successful career and a happier life in general.
