“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
1 Thess. 5:18
Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday of the year, and with good reason too. After all, being thankful is one of the sure ways in the Bible to be counted in the will of God. Romans 1, when talking about the fall of mankind into a “reprobate mind” describes the turning point as “because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, NEITHER WERE THANKFUL…” In other words, ingratitude is directly tied in with being against God and unspiritual.
This is why I love the fact that we as Americans have a holiday directly tied in to being thankful. People may take issue with the history behind it, but the idea that we have a day dedicated to being thankful will always be just cool to me.
This year has been packed full of surprises, along with plenty of reasons to be upset at each other. Sometimes it’s hard to be thankful, but the scripture says to give thanks “in everything”. The true nature of someone is displayed when they are thankful even in the face of adversity.
