I see lots of articles on the strategies for remote team management. But what about the strategies for when you do have to go into work? But since there are certainly downsides to being in office, how can those things be turned into positives.
One of the benefits of working from home is saving time on driving. I totally hate traffic, so that is certainly a downside of coming into work. But to a certain extent, I also enjoy that time to decompress and focus on the tasks in front of me for the day. I will also use that drive in the morning to listen to a podcast, calming music, or something else where the time doesn’t feel wasted.
Distractions also come up in the discussion of in person vs remote work. I oftentimes like the distractions that in person work offers. Some time away from emails and meetings can often give your brain a break and allow you to refocus. Obviously this can also be done at home, but the human interaction that comes from those social breaks certainly it’s better than scrolling a 5 minute break.
Work life balance is important to everyone. That’s why work models continue to change and develop over the years. Studies have dangers of isolation from society for too long without any social interaction at all. Video calls simply aren’t the same as having a face to face conversation. Human factor are important in work, and in life.
