Company Culture

Written by Salina Milana

Company culture. Why is it so important? Well, if you think about it, people spend a lot of time at work. I work 40 hours a week and that’s a decent amount of time, but I know people that spend an upwards of 70 hours a week working. I feel like at that point you spend more time with your coworkers than you would with your pet at home. Not only are you around your coworkers for long periods of time, but you also collaborate, discuss, and implement processes with them constantly. So, what do you do if you don’t get along with them? Could you stand going to work every day? It would make going to work feel miserable, even if you enjoy what you do. As a business owner, you wouldn’t be able to keep employees because no one would want to work in a place with terrible company culture. For a lot of people, work is a huge part of their lives; so why would they stay at a place where they don’t have good co-workers, therefore bad company culture?

Every time people ask me if I like my job, I tell them yes. The first reason I always list when explaining why is: “I have awesome co-workers!”. Working in an office at a desk for 8 hours a day isn’t always for the faint of heart; but when you work with the people I do, then going to work every day is a lot more joyful and meaningful. When you have a team that jokes around together, gives shout outs to one another, and is tight knit, I believe there is nothing you can’t do together. I have seen people in our company go the extra mile for each other, I am positive that wouldn’t be the case if our company culture wasn’t good.

Recently, we had a vendor visit our office for a meeting to exchange capabilities. We had a great time because the Mettle Ops team was showcasing our company culture with lighthearted jokes and laughter together while we were explaining to them our team dynamics. After the meeting when the visitors were about to leave, they said to us that they can really see how our culture here is one to desire because of how well we all get along. This made me very proud of our team and made me feel very fortunate to get to work at the place I do.
