Rushing To Get Somewhere, Anywhere...

By Anne Walter

Isn’t there some place I have to be? What did I accomplish today? Have I completed my daily “to-do” list? Every day I ask myself these questions as I’m sure you do as well, or at least some of the time. In most instances, I find myself in an endless state of busyness and at times I have to stop, slow down, and re-evaluate how I’m spending my time. I pause and think to myself, “have I always been this focused?” When did the world around me evolve into this constant state of motion?

Awareness of our personal strengths and weaknesses is one way that can help to define how we can manage daily schedules. I can honestly say I would describe myself as someone with more of a “Type A” personality, so I tend to gravitate toward the constant completion of my “to-do” list. Although, it can be hectic and sometimes stressful, I know that these things have to be addressed and my processes allows for this to happen.

What I have learned though, is to constantly strive to maintain a balance, in an attempt to prioritize what is really important, although I feel that would describe my entire list. I need to create a realistic “midway” point that allows for less stress but also acknowledges the “Type A” within.

“Balance”…a word used so often but takes a great deal of discipline to successfully implement for long term utilization in my “Type A” world…a concept that I am continually working on every day.
