We Are One

The world seems to be in chaos in so many ways these days. So much conflict, dissension, and rebellion. People groups literally hating and harming one another for a variety of reasons. What people do not seem to recall or realize is that all people are essentially one people group. We come from the same genetic code; we have a common origin. From secular and religious history some people would say that humans originated in Mesopotamia, others in South Africa and even elsewhere. We have the same genetic code with only the tiniest differences in DNA that make us distinct from one another. Dr. J. Craig Venter, head of the Celera Genomics Corporation in Rockville, Md. was one of the leading scientists in the Human Genome Project which mapped the human genome in the 1990-2000 timeframe. He and all the researchers involved in the study concluded that there is only one race. Quoting from an article in the New York Times 22Aug2000: “Dr. Venter and scientists at the National Institutes of Health recently announced that they had put together a draft of the entire sequence of the human genome, and the researchers had unanimously declared, there is only one race -- the human race”. If we are one people group and one race, why is there so much conflict, dissension, and rebellion? I think it would be good for all of us to ponder this.
